Sally’s teaching career began in the east end of London and Camden Town. After a short maternity break she continued in Hampshire before moving to head the infant department at a primary school in Cambridgeshire. From there she moved to the City of Leicester, where she was head of a large infant school and nursery serving an area of extreme social and economic depravation. During her time as head the school received a Schools’ Curriculum Award.
In 1987 Sally became a Primary Adviser for Leicestershire, with responsibility for supporting over 100 schools in the north east of the county. From 1989-94 she was an OFSTED Registered Inspector.
Since 1993 Sally has worked as an independent trainer and consultant, covering a range of current issues in nursery, primary and special schools.
In 1997 Sally and her husband, Phill, founded Featherstone Education. The company was acquired by A&C Black Ltd in 2008.
Sally lives with Phill in a farmhouse on the Yorkshire Pennines. For relaxation she enjoys drawing and painting, walking, photography and developing the upland hay meadows around their house.
